Just returned from a hugely enjoyable performance of my new micro concerto for electric cello and technician. The piece was commissioned and performed by Sam Warner (with myself on electronics) as the final item of his undergraduate degree at Cardiff University. Sam wanted to end the piece in a very specific way, and so the final gesture of the work saw him cut off each of his cello strings with a pair of secateurs before the audience were plunged into a total blackout.
It was a pleasure to write a piece for such an open minded and versatile cellist and I very much look forward to working with him again in the future.
